Let us discuss some tips to gain speed and accuracy in Mathematics to give a sure shot success in the examination.

Why speed is required to solve the questions in Competitive Exam?

Most of the candidates will not understand when we say they need to build up speed because they may not be aware of the exam pattern and time allotted to solve the question paper. For those who are appearing for the first time, they should note down that to answer 100 questions you are allote4d only 60 minutes to solve. It means you need to solve each question in less than a minute. All it needs is SPEED. Speed without accuracy will not work out well if you are answering wrong as it will lead to negative marking. For every mistake, there will be negative marking of ¼ of the marks allotted to those questions.

Therefore, while preparing for the mathematics section make a strategy in such a way so that you get the right answer and at the right time.

  1. Know your weaknesses: Ever since you are studying this complex subject as most of the students say, you must have experienced some difficult topics which are not in your reach. Try to know them before you start studying. The best way is to list down the chapters in the order of preference from the examination point of view. Pick those topics first to study which are important and you are weak in the same. Prepare them first to gain confidence.
  2. Develop Your Calculation Speed: Develop a good hold over calculations so that you spend less time. It can be developed by practicing speed tests based on the basic calculations; it will help in gaining speed. Solve the tests with the timer on to judge your speed and finally accuracy. For small calculations, one can do it in your head but for complex calculations learn the multiplication tables from 1 to 20. Learn the concept first and then find the shortcut methods for a calculation to speed up the calculation process. Practice speed tests daily to gain speed with a stopwatch. Do not use a calculator while practicing calculations.
  3. Practice your weak topics daily: Analyze your problems and practice those topics daily to gain accuracy. This is very important even more than speed. Once you will gain accuracy speed will be generated automatically. Speed and Accuracy are directly proportional to each other. Therefore, maintain a perfect balance between the two.
  4. List down the formulae: List all the important formulae of almost all the topics so that you can revise them at the 11th hour of the examination. Besides that make a list of cubes and squares tables and learn them for quick responses to the4 complex calculations. For squares learn the table up to 30 and for cubes learn up to 15. Master these formulae as these are the best short tricks to solve quickly.

The above-said tips are very helpful as these are the tips followed by most of the successful candidates of SSC and IBPS Exams. Hope it will work well with you too.

All the best!!!!
