Should You Buy Web Traffic?

You know that your website needs traffic to make sales – that’s a given. Is it the right thing for you to buy web traffic? The question generates much debate amongst Internet online marketers; some believe in it, others don’t.

It helps to think where this traffic comes from – it does not just materialize from outer space.

There are several methods that can be used to generate paid for traffic, and the most well known example is Google AdWords and its Bing equivalent, Microsoft® adCenter. These two use the ‘Pay Per Click’ (PPC) methods of advertising promotion.

The essence of this is that you use the services of Google or Bing to show your advertisement to suitable potential customers when they make a matching search. If a visitor clicks on your link then they are redirected to your website and you will be charged for that click.

It is almost instant. You create an account and place your ad. Once it is approved it will run and you can be getting visitors very quickly. You can set how much each click will cost and you can manage your daily budget too so as to keep within sensible limits. All you need to know now is how much each visitor is worth to you and then you can decide if you are going to make a profit or not.

As you seek to make money on the Internet by building a reputable business avoid spamming or Black Hat techniques which will only harm your website’s reputation; use regular alternatives such as List Marketing instead.

In list marketing the list owner will email out your ad to his list and send a certain number of visitors to your site. You will pay a fee and, again, you get the opportunity to convert the visitor to be a signup of customer.

Is it worth it for you? That’s the big question! The answer depends on how well you can convert visitors into paying customers over their average lifetime. The marketplace, and your abilities as a marketer, must drive those conversions so as to more than cover your costs.

Let’s say you are an affiliate marketer promoting a $50 product with a 50% payout. Now, if you allowed up to 50% of that to buy traffic at $1 per click then you would need to make one sale from each group of 12 your visitors. If you believe that the quality of traffic you attract and the conversion rate that the traffic delivers is likely to be good enough then it’s a good way to go.

Sometimes the only way is to try it – but do your sums first and watch the costs and conversions like a hawk.

Sometimes things do not go according to plan at first. However, if you have some success then keep revising your ad and conversion web page and so find out whether or not you should buy web traffic.
